At Christmas, we were offered a week-end in Perigord with 2 nights in bed and breakfast and dinner at Etincelles restaurant. At the beginning of April with the beautiful days that were coming slowly, desires of countryside, relaxation, farmers’ markets, good wines … suddenly decided me to drive to Dordogne (to Sainte Sabine Born more exactly) to enjoy our beautiful gift!
Here is how I organized this 2 days tour in Perigord through the small villages (the Bastides) and the vineyards of Monbazillac and Bergerac.
Where is Perigord in France? Where is the Dordogne in France?
Even if Toulouse is only 2:30 of Perigord, I confess shamefully that I did not know at all this region of Perigord and Dordogne. In fact, I stupidly discovered tha Perigord and Dordogne are the same place. Perigord is the old name of the region which included the department of Dordogne. It is located north of Toulouse, east of Bordeaux and south of Limoges (see map below).

The territory of Perigord is delimited in 4 parts:
- Green Perigord in the North. Green for its forests and especially its Regional Natural Park Périgord-Limousin.
- White Perigord from East to West. White as its soil and its limestone reliefs,
- Purple Perigord to the southwest. Purple for its vineyards (especially around Bergerac).
- Black Perigord in the South-East. Black for the many green oaks whose foliage darken the landscapes. It is the black Perigord which is the most tourist and it is there that I will spend my week-end!
2 days in Perigord – How to visit Dordogne in 2 days?
To discover Perigord green, white, purple and black, it obviously takes more than 2 days. Indeed, this beautiful region is home to many small medieval villages, hundreds of castles, chasms, prehistoric caves and beautiful vineyards.
To choose the places to visit in 2 days, I simply selected those that are close to the Mansion La Gentilhommière therefore all around Sainte Sabine Born. Thus, I could enjoy visiting some beautiful villages and vineyards of Perigord without spending too much time on the road.

At the heart of the Dordogne valley, in the center of the vineyards of Monbazillac and Pécharmant, Bergerac really charmed us with its tranquility, its architecture dating back to the 11th century and its castle on the edge of the river.
