You want to organize for your trip in France a 2 days or 3 days tour to visit the most beautiful castles of the Loire Valley? Well here is my tour with the map of the itinerary to visit in 2 days (or 3) best castles of the Loire Valley.
Which are the Loire castles to visit absolutely?
This is the question everyone asks themselves when organizing their tour. Depending on the length of your stay in the Loire Valley, you will have the opportunity to discover several of them of course. However, to fully enjoy the visits and gardens, it is advisable to limit yourself to visiting only 2 per day. So, for a weekend, you will have to choose among the very numerous castles (almost 3 000) only the 4 or 5 that really justify the visit.
My selection of the 5 most beautiful castles of the Loire Valley
So, I took the list of the 10 must-see Loire Valley castles and I only retained the 5 most beautiful castles to which I added the Royal Castle of Amboise (starting point of my tour).
- Chenonceau Castle
- Cheverny Castle
- Chambord Castle
- Azay-le-Rideau Castle
- Villandry Castle
Castles of the Loire Valley in 2 days – Tour map
Loire Valley Castles in 2 days – Amboise
To start my tour, I chose the city of Amboise which is central to the location of the Castles to visit. I thus advise you to lodge in Amboise for its perfect geographical situation for this stay (see recommended hotel).
And of course, while being in Amboise, a first castle visit is essential: The Royal Castle of Amboise. Palace of the kings of France throughout the Renaissance, it is also the burial place of the great Leonardo da Vinci.
Loire Valley Castles in 2 days – Chenonceau
The richness of the monument, the interior and exterior decoration of this castle fascinate all tourists. The visit is interesting to discover the various rooms which are associated with the history of men but especially of the women who occupied it, notably Diane de Poitiers and Catherine de Médicis.
Loire Valley Castles in 2 days – Cheverny
The Cheverny domain is a private property kept by the same family for more than six centuries. Château de Cheverny is the first castle to have been opened to the public in 1922.
It can be visited inside, but it is strongly recommended to also visit the splendid botanical park of the estate. To get closer to the next stage of the next day’s tour, it is best to take the road to Chambord to spend the night in the Domaine de Chambord.
Loire Valley Castles in 2 days – Chambord
It is surely the most famous Loire Valley castle for tourists from all over the world!
The stopover at the Château de Chambord is scheduled on all France tours of foreign tour operators. Impressive with its oversized dimensions, its 426 rooms and its 282 chimneys, it is also popular for its rare double-revolution stairs.
Loire Castles in 2 days – Azay-le-Rideau
Built during the reign of François 1er, this castle has a crazy charm. Surrounded by the waters of the Indre river, which is a tributary of the Loire, these places are full of romanticism.
Loire Castles in 2 days – Villandry
The Château de Villandry is one of my favorites. It is so elegant in the middle of its beautiful flowered gardens! This step is possible if your visit rhythm allows it or if you are lucky enough to enjoy 3 days trip!
