For those who want to travel in the South of France without a lot of money, I propose in this post my selection of the 3 best cheap hotels in Marseille.

Indeed, if it is easy and simple to go on Booking and choose a cheap hotel in the center of Marseille, it is more difficult to discern which are the best among the hotel discount offer. And it’s even more complicated to find a good cheap hotel but well located in the center of Marseille and especially in a safe neighborhood for tourists

So, if you are interested, here is my selection of the 3 best budget hotels in Marseille.

Cheap Hotel in Marseille – How to select it ?

First, I looked at the entire hotel offering to get an idea of the average price of mid-range hotels in central Marseille. Then I made a selection using the price filter from 50 € to 70 €.

And with the results obtained, I selected only hotels or cheap apartments that are well evaluated by users especially in terms of cleanliness, comfort and quality of services.

After this step, I had to check in which neighborhoods they were to keep only those which are in the best area of Marseille for tourists.

Cheap hotel in Marseille – Which district to choose ?

I studied for a precedent post the different districts of Marseille to define only those which are recommended for a tourist stay in Marseille. See my article : Is Marseille a dangerous city ?

And so, it is in quiet and safe areas that I selected the 3 best cheap hotels in Marseille for tourists.

My selection of 3 best cheap hotels in Marseille

3 best budget hotels in Marseille – The cheapest apartment

Appart du vieux port  (59 € the apartment for 4 people)

Among my small selection of cheap hotels in Marseille, I first present you the cheapest apartment in the district of the old port (favorite district of tourists in Marseille). With its 47 m2, its small price of 59 Euros per night is the same whether you are 2, 3 or 4 people. It has a separate bedroom, a fully equipped kitchen, a bathroom and a flat-screen TV.

It is a beautiful apartment very well equipped, well arranged and ideally located in small pedestrian street of old Marseille. With a score of 9.5 given by users for its location, this apartment is really a good plan.

Only downside : The area all around the old port district is very lively, so this apartment is in a noisy environment.

Its little extra : large area, equipped for 4 beds, private parking nearby.

3 best budget hotels in Marseille – My favorite

Résidhotel Vieux Port (70 € the studio for  2 people)

Here is my favorite : a beautifull cheap hotel residence and very well located in the center of Marseille in the old port district. Its geographical location is perfect for a tourist stay in Marseille because it is just behind the old port, close to shops and restaurants and also close to a metro station.

With a location like this, you will not need a car to visit Marseille and its surroundings. In addition, it is an excellent compromise to have the advantages of an apartment and enjoy the services of a hotel (luggage storage, reception, breakfasts …).

Only downside : The area of the old port noisy because it is very lively.

Its little plus : Its pretty terrace where you can take your meals under the beautiful sun of Marseille !

3 best budget hotels in Marseille – The best value for money

Massilia hôtel  (55 Euros the night)

The location of this hotel is perfect for those who want to be next to the Saint Charles train station and close to the Vieux Port tourist district. In a lively area with restaurants and cafes, users have well rated this hotel.

Among my selection of cheap hotels in Marseille, it’s the best value for money. Indeed, for 55 Euros per night, you will enjoy a warm welcome and proximity to the train station.

Only minor caveats : This popular area may be less attractive at night to go out… The rooms are small (but clean and well equipped).

Its little extras : Home, cleanliness, air conditioning, kettle…
